So, I Guess 'Pregnancy Brain' IS A Real Thing?!

I am lucky enough to have several close friends that have navigated the 'pregnancy-to-new-mommy' road over the last year or two. As hard as it was to wait to get pregnant, I feel like God's timing was just perfect, and am so happy to have friends to call/text/nag with each and every little question.

One of the things I had heard about pregnancy was that it can cause the symptom 'pregnancy brain.' I had learned that pregnancy brain was something that could start to happen as soon as you were pregnant, or may sit dormant until you least expect it. It causes you to be clumsy, lose your words, and pretty much act like you're totally out of it. And, it comes out of nowhere.

Well, the rumors are true. I still had my doubts up until a few weeks ago when I was just about 22 weeks preggo and visiting my sister in Atlanta. I found myself confused at simple things, forgetting something I just did or said, and totally saying the wrong thing when my brain was thinking something else.

For example, my sister's house is setup in a sort of circle type layout. Very simple. Granted, this was my first visit to her new home, but the place isn't quite big enough to find yourself lost, yet I would still manage to turn the wrong way down the hallway practically every time I left the bathroom. Call it a habit, but I'm calling pregnancy brain on this one.

Or, what about forgetting whether or not I had replied to an email that I sent no longer than 15 minutes before?!

Please tell me this doesn't get worse once the baby arrives, because if that is the case, I will need to relinquish my duty of 'feeding our pets' to B before either of them are starved by accident!

So, make me feel a little better here ladies. Has this happened to you, too?!

Um, yes. After packing my lunch one day I turned to Shawn and said, "What am I going to do for lunch today?!" ... he looked at me like I was crazyyyy.

pregnancy brain is for real! lol. mine lasted shortly after giving birth ;p my hubby asked me to bring him some tea. i got it and took it straight to the nursery and straight over to the crib where kenzie was sleeping. not to my hubs room. then one afternoon i opened a cabinet to find the butter sitting on top the pots and pans from breakfast that morning lol. ooops.

I definitely had pregnancy brain. People at work typically depended (and still do) for certain knowledge and from time to time they knew there was something wrong with the information I was giving them and would comment on the "pregnancy brain." Mine continued for a while after having my little guy, but it did slowly get better. It could have been a lack of sleep more than pregnancy brain though! Good luck, hopefully it doesn't continue to get worse for you!

Unfortunately "pregnancy brain" remains after you have the baby. It just turns into "mom brain". I had pregnancy brain bad. I mean, I would be driving down the interstate and completely forget to get off at my exit until I was a good 3 or 4 exits past it. That kind of forgetfulness, for me at least, even doubled after I had Carter. But once I got used to the new normal for us, it kind of went away. So, if you're anything like me, it will get worse after you have the baby, but then decrease until you're back to normal again. Just in time to get pregnant with baby 2 and repeat the cycle all over again ;)

Oh, girl. It's real. And I wish I could say it got better, but for me I'm pretty sure I lost even more during birth. And I kind of think it got worse with the 2nd baby boy. Who knows how I'll be after a 3rd! HA!

I had it so bad I had to quit working weeks before my second baby got here. My mom and husband wouldn't even let me drive!
