The 'Low Down' On The Neighborhood

Happy Tuesday, lovelies! Please excuse my short hiatus yesterday. We were on our way back from visiting my family in NJ, so today is our first real day back in action!

If you read my Friday Letters post last week, you got a small glimpse into the 'low down' on our neighborhood. Now, let me back up for a minute.

We bought our townhouse last Fall. We chose this specific part of the area, and more specifically, this neighborhood, because it was quiet, full of young families, and super convenient to almost any place you would ever run an errand. And, while we love it here, and each of these reasons has already proven itself tenfold, we are beginning to think that we may have underestimated the whole 'full of young families' factor.

The little nook of the neighborhood we chose also happens to be a pretty tucked away (and somewhat large) cul de sac. What we didn't factor in was the fact that parents would be so willing (and encouraging) of letting their kids play unattended for hours and hours right outside our place.

When I say 'right outside,' I really mean about 20 yards away from our front door, in a small, grassy, shady area, but still within plenty of distance to hear the shrieks as if they are coming from the next room inside our house.

I won't get into the nitty gritty details, but let's just say that this heat wave has actually been a welcomed change around here. These days our windows are closed and our A/C is cranking just enough to drown out the constant noise.

Please don't get me wrong, I absolutely love kids. In fact, I'd love to have a small gaggle of my own some day soon. Maybe God is teaching me more patience now while there is still time to prepare. And boy, it's working. We're hopeful that this is just another one of those 'things' that you just don't get until you've been through it? Just like we thought certain dogs were irritating, and then we got our own and all of that went right out the window!

But, while I'm willing to learn to tolerate be more patient with all of the kids, and make more new friends in the neighborhood, there is one guy that I just cannot forgive for his daily antics.

So, if you see him headed towards my neighborhood, please do me a favor and break his speakers and/or flag him down in a different direction? If  hear that song one.more.time I may just start looking for a new neighborhood.

LOL! My neighborhood is the same way. There is a teenager who has an ice cream truck and I swear I hear it no less than 3x a day!

We have a similar problem. We don't live on a cul de sac, but on a very short street with a dead end. Parents let their kids run around and play in the street and it scares the crap out of me! What if some kid darts out when I'm driving in or out??

Yeah I take your ice cream man and raise you mine who comes by pretty much every hour on the hour. He plays the normal song and then this other one that ends with, "HELLO? ICE CREAM!". I wish I was kidding.

Haha! This made me laugh! We ARE that family that lives on the cul de sac that has the 8 million {really only 3} kids screaming! It's a good thing that our neighbors have screaming kids too! It annoys me at times...and they are MY kids. :)

The ice cream man has got to be one of THE worst things about living in the suburbs, especially if you have kids. I grew up in a pretty rural area, and we never had an ice cream truck drive by our house. Here in the 'burbs... it's every day, usually multiple times a day. And every time my kids hear the ice cream truck coming, they start screaming and running around the house like addicts on withdrawal. I've learned to keep a stash of ice cream pops in the freezer to calm the crazies. I really don't want to buy overpriced ice cream from a creeper with a lay-z-boy in the back of his truck, thankyouverymuch.
