When Pant Pockets Become 'Office Space' See Also: A Rant About Husband Habits

The title of this post may sound confusing, maybe even weird to you. But, this title has also become a reality in our home ever since I married B. You see, unlike many people, B doesn't work in a standard 'office' setting. He doesn't have colleagues in the next office or cube over, and he definitely doesn't have any 'office space' to house all of his 'work crap' call his own.

Why, you ask? Well, my hubby is a project manager for a large home builder. And before you think I'm complaining about his job, let me explain. His job has definite perks. He is almost always home by 4PM, he runs his own job site, so he sort of makes the rules, and he knows a ton of subcontractors, so we have our list of go-to's for our own home projects.

But, the downside to this job? He works out of his car. His company is generous and does offer some financial contribution towards the vehicle of your choice (as long as it's a pickup truck), but it still means that he spends many hours per day going in and out of his car. And all of those little items that so many of us gather up in our desk drawers or on top of our desks and cubicles? Well, those items end up in B's pants pockets. And, instead of his items coming in the form of post-its and Scotch tape, they often come in the form of pens full of blue ink and random screws.

So, why am I ranting about bringing all of this up, you ask? Well, being the dutiful wife that I am (or try to be), I take on the task each week of doing all of our laundry. I don't know about you, but when I do the laundry, I don't always check all of the pockets of our clothes, mainly because I barely ever use my pockets, so why check when there's nothing there? Well, I certainly learned that lesson the hard way because I have had ENTIRE loads of laundry ruined because a certain someone left a pen in his pocket. Or? There just happened to be a leftover screw in there from the house that settled last week, and it may or may not have ripped the sleeve in that favorite cotton shirt of yours.

Has this ever happened to anyone else, or am I the only woman on the verge of losing her laundry sanity?! We're working on the 'checking pockets' task, but if you have any other suggestions for me, please feel free to share!!

Happy Wednesday, lovelies!

I get you!!!!
Or what if your hubby is color blind and can't put like colors together to wash?
And then your MIL reads your blog so you can't rant about her son. Just saying....

My husband refuses to let me do his laundry because I "dont do it right" hahaha! So I guess I'm lucky in that way??? But the kids??? oh... the kids. They have candy, little gadgets, and more galore in their pockets! grrr :)

I get handcuff keys, pens and then all-time worst enemy of frilly things--the Velcro Bibs! I feel your pain. It just comes with wifey territory!

Yes, I have this, nails, screws, a few years ago I washed his phone. Hence the reason he now does his own laundry. :)

Haha, I can totally relate. My first major wife-fail was washing my husband's wallet when he got home from work and I was itching to throw laundry in (who knows what I was thinking!) He also tends to leave pens in his work clothes too. I keep wanting to make this for the laundry room to remind him (and me!) to check pockets. http://lovestitched.blogspot.com/2010/08/laundry-room-sign-tutorial.html

You are totally not alone...My boyfriend leaves tons of crap in his pockets, it took me months to remember to ALWAYS check the pockets!

Hubby and I had this same arguement when he was in the Army.

Army uniforms have little slits in the sleeve to carry pens/writing utensils on you at all times. I have turned the inside of my dryer black with ink before because I forgot to check his arms. Ugh!

Joe left an entire pack of gum in his pocket, and it was stuck in every crevice of the washing machine and was all over our clothes! Needless to say... I now make sure I check his pant pockets.
